Where to enroll after high school? If you’re
in Luzon (outside NCR), you might want to check this compiled list of higher
educational institutions in Mindanao that offer the best college education.
According to the Commission on Higher
Education (CHED), these universities "have demonstrated the highest degree
or level of standard along the areas of instruction, research and
extension".
This article adopts the “PhilStar ranking”
published last year, and then updates it for this year. The list applies the
ranking system which is based on the number of centers of excellence (COE)
and centers of development (COD) awarded
by CHED. The ranking system is: 1 COD = 1 point; while 1 COE = 2 points.
The COEs and CODs are higher education
institutions with the highest degree or level of standards in the areas of
instruction, research and extension. On this list, the university systems (such
as the UP and MSU systems) are treated on a campus-to-campus basis, separately,
as per CHED’s format.
Take note, however, that the COEs and CODs do
not reflect the overall performance of a university. The data reflected here
are taken from the CHED records as of 2 March 2015.
